After morning tea or coffee, enjoy an energizing and revitalizing slow-flow vinyasa yoga practice on our villa’s poolside veranda. Morning classes will focus on moving the vital energy force in each of us through thoughtful sequencing and breathwork. Some afternoons and evenings will include restorative yoga and guided meditation practices.

activities

The retreat includes a group outing exploring the coast and islands on an exclusive, customized boat excursion with swimming and snorkeling. We have a day to visit the medieval walled city of Dubrovnik with its rich history, sidewalk cafes, and Old World architecture. Personal free time can be filled with poolside lounging, a hike in the hills, a winery tour, and seaside activities.

cuisine

An unexpected pleasure of Croatia is the tantalizing Mediterranean cuisine. We will dine on fresh and locally sourced food that is wholesome and delicious. The region is well known for growing figs and cherries and producing some of the finest olive oil and wine in the world. The culinary surprise will be a dinner out in a nearby charming town.

How do I get to the retreat destination?

Optionally, you can fly into the other international airports in the Croatian cities of Zagreb or Split and take a domestic flight to Dubrovnik. Our retreat villa is a scenic 45-minute drive along the coast from the airport.

You will receive information for airport transfers (not included) when you register.

If you are traveling from the U.S. or Canada, try to arrive a day or two early to adjust to the time zone. You will be in better shape to fully enjoy your retreat. If you have additional days to travel, a few days on one of the islands is recommended.

What are the tourist entry requirements with regard to Covid-19?

Croatia does NOT require tourists to have a negative Covid-19 test or a Covid-19 vaccination. Entry requirements are the same as pre-pandemic travel.

See here Croatia’s official tourism site for up-to-date travel information.

Plan to arrive at our retreat hotel by mid-afternoon on June 23. Check-in is at 3:00 pm.

The retreat ends on June 30 after breakfast. Check-out is at 10:00 am. Book your return flight for early-mid afternoon. If your flight is later you are welcome to stay on property.

Who is the retreat leader and what is the yoga like?

The retreat leader is Sandra Tedeschi, the owner of Vajra Sol.

  • Each morning we will have a 1.5 – 2-hour yoga class. These practices will focus on moving the vital energy force in each of us through the power of specific sequencing of postures and breathwork. The style is a slow flow vinyasa and hatha yoga.
  • Some late afternoons we will do restorative yoga and guided meditation. These will lead you to quiet the mind and enter a deep state of relaxation. With the over-stimulation to our senses in today’s modern lifestyle, the nervous system can have a harder time accessing an optimal restful state which can lead to burn-out or illness. As a preventive or therapeutic modality, these practices can help the body’s system reset and rejuvenate.
  • All levels of yoga, beginner to seasoned, are welcome. Start where you are.
  • The yoga sessions are held in the open air around the spacious poolside or another area of the property.
What are the meals like?

Croatia may surprise you with its cuisine. They eat very fresh and locally sourced, and the food is delicious and wholesome. Influenced by the Mediterranean and Italian palate, Croatians enjoy slow meal times and eating well!

The Villa’s restaurant creates dishes with high-quality and organic ingredients; fruits, vegetables, meat, fish are bought from local farmers and fishermen. All dining is al fresco to enjoy the delightful outdoor temperatures.

Special diets – Gluten- and dairy-free products are uncommon in the Croatian diet and are not easily available. If your diet is strict and requires it, meals can be prepared without gluten or dairy with advance notice only.

Vegetarian dishes are readily served. Vegan is not common and most meals will contain something non-vegan.

What are the optional activities?

You will have plenty of free time to fill as you like or simply enjoy our host hotel’s amenities.

  • A walk down to the beach for a swim
  • Hike or bike around the hills
  • Take a cooking class or walking tour in Dubrovnik
  • Sea kayak tour
  • Explore Old Town Dubrovnik
  • Wine tasting tour
  • Visit to the nearby botanical gardens
  • Read a book, journal, chat with new friends, and always enjoy the view!
What is the group size for the retreat?

What is the group size for this retreat?

The retreat is limited to 15 persons to maintain general comfort for group travel and to allow for personalized attention to each participant. This retreat is for the yoga-inspired traveler who appreciates finely curated travel experiences with a small group of like-minded people. We take care of all the planning. You only need to book your plane ticket and pack your bags. Solo travelers are very welcome!

What is your payment and cancellation policy?

A non-refundable $1,000 deposit is required to confirm your reservation.

The second payment is due by April 2023. Details will be provided when you book.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, for whatever reason, we will not be able to provide a refund or credit for any payment made.

The only exception is if your spot can be filled then your payment can either be refunded less a $150 cancelation fee or receive full credit for another Vajra Sol retreat within one year.

No refunds are provided for arriving late or departing the retreat early, for activities or meals in which one does not participate.

If force majeure (e.g. pandemic, natural disaster, government travel restrictions, etc.) causes a retreat to be canceled we will offer alternative dates to reschedule the retreat within one year. In this case, there is no refund of payments when a retreat cannot be held due to causes beyond our control.

If you are unable to join at the rescheduled date, full or partial credit of your payment may be applicable towards another Vajra Sol retreat. This will be determined at the time as it depends on how far out it is from the retreat dates.

In the unlikely event Vajra Sol needs to cancel a retreat for a non-force majeure reason a full refund will be given. Vajra Sol will not be held liable for any expenses incurred by the participant for a retreat canceled either by the participant or by Vajra Sol.

We strongly advise on the purchase of travel insurance at the time of booking your retreat in the case of any unexpected events or changes to your plans before or during your trip.

Should I buy trip insurance?

Trip insurance is strongly recommended for coverage of any unplanned changes that may occur before or during your trip, such as trip cancelation or delayed flights, lost luggage, emergency medical assistance, and more. Check with IMGlobal for insurance coverage that meets your needs.

Was Game of Thrones filmed in Dubrovnik?

Yes, our Croatia yoga retreat has a fun tie to Game of Thrones! Dubrovnik was the main filming location in Croatia for King’s Landing, a fictional city in Game of Thrones, the famous television series based on the series of fantasy novels “A Song of Ice and Fire” and distributed by HBO. For those who have seen the series and are passionate about it, a visit to Dubrovnik will become a beautiful déjà vu because of the way in which it was so well integrated into the setting of the series.

With a base such as that of the Old Town of Dubrovnik, no special measures were necessary for scenery or special effects in order to play the fortified port city of King’s Landing, a stronghold of the Lannister family. Filming grandly exploits the large outer walls, fortifications built over time by human hands, as well as the narrow streets of the old town where several scenes happen during the course of the episodes.

Every detail was taken care of – Great combination of yoga, touring, wonderful food and accommodations and plenty of extras! First trip and likely not the last!

Mark, Idaho

The planning for our adventures was exhaustive & flawless while the yoga was threaded into every moment. Sandra teaches that yoga is not just about the asana or what you do on your mat. It’s a way of life worth living with others. As for the accommodations, food & service – everything was top notch.

Christina, Labrador, Canada

This was my third retreat with Sandra, I have been to Costa Rica twice and enjoyed my retreats so much there. I again traveled solo to this retreat and felt safe and confident the entire time. If you’re looking for a superbly organized adventure, mixed with spirituality and fun then do yourself a favour and go on retreat with Vajra Sol!
