Retreat Highlights

yoga

After morning coffee/tea, enjoy a revitalizing slow-flow vinyasa yoga practice led by Sandra. Classes focus on moving our vital energy force through systematic and thoughtful sequencing of poses. Three afternoons include restorative yoga and a guided meditation practice to settle in at the end of the day. Nature’s elements are reflected in all of us. Creating balance with the elements is yoga.

activities

In addition to a special group outing, you have lots of options for activities to explore this area of Portugal. Enjoy optional bicycle or horseback riding, a boat tour on the Tagus River or to Berlengas, beach walks, surfing or stand up paddle (SUP) boarding, spa treatments, or a visit to the town of Santa Cruz. There will also be ample time to read a book, journal, chat with new friends, relax and enjoy the view.

off the mat

The essence of a Vajra Sol retreat is yoga, but the unique components of what makes the experience complete extend beyond our practice on the mat. Our retreats compliment our yoga practices. Take the quiet time you need to replenish. Opt into the social time to connect. Indulge in gourmet meals and sleep to nourish. Take walks in nature to balance your energy, and explore a new place to delight the senses.

How do I get to the retreat destination?

Book your flight to Lisbon international airport (LIS). If you’re flying from North America there are direct flights from eastern cities. Check with TAP Air, Portugal’s airline. The retreat location is about an hour drive north from Lisbon (61 km). A private transfer costs about €100 per trip (not per person). You also can rent a car from Lisbon. You will receive more information about transfers when you sign up.

If you are traveling from the U.S. or Canada, try to arrive a day or two early to adjust to the new time zone. You will be in better shape to fully enjoy your retreat. A few days in Lisbon is well worth it!

When does the retreat start and end?

Plan to arrive at the retreat hotel by mid-afternoon on the first day. Check-in is at 4:00 pm. Check-out is at 12:00 pm. The retreat ends on the last day after breakfast.

Who is the retreat leader and what is the yoga like?

The retreat leader is Sandra Tedeschi, the owner of Vajra Sol.

Each morning we have a 2-hour dynamic slow flow vinyasa yoga class combined with transformative breathing exercises. Each class is themed in a yogic teaching or philosophy that ties to the asana practice. Three afternoons include restorative yoga, meditation, and other non-asana practices.

These practices lead one to quiet the mind and enter a restful state of relaxation. With the over-stimulation of our senses in today’s modern lifestyle, the nervous system can have a harder time accessing a fully relaxed state which can lead to burn-out or illness.

As a preventive or therapeutic modality, these time-proven yoga practices can help the body’s system realign with one’s natural state and rejuvenate for optimal well-being.

All levels of yoga, beginner to seasoned, are welcome. Start where you are.

What are the meals like?

On the Portugal yoga retreat breakfasts or brunches, three light lunches, and some dinners will be on property. Other dinners will be at the hotel’s beachfront restaurant a few minutes’ drive away. One dinner is not included so you can explore on your own at a restaurant in the nearby town of Santa Cruz. The hotel has a café-bar where you can order tea, homemade sweets, appetizers, snacks, and alcoholic drinks. Vegetarian dishes are offered for all meals.

Special diets can be accommodated (tasty vegetarian and vegan offered). Please let us know when you make your booking.

What are the optional activities?

You will have plenty of free time to fill as you like or simply enjoy our host hotel’s amenities.

  • Bike rides (complimentary hotel bikes available)
  • Horse riding
  • boat tour on the Tagus River or boating to Berlengas Island
  • Visit the nearby town of Santa Cruz
  • Beach walks
  • Surfing or Stand up paddle outings
  • Spa treatments
  • Evening gatherings around the fire circle
  • Read a book, journal, chat with new friends, and always enjoy the view!
What is the group size for the retreat?

What is the group size for this retreat?

The retreat is limited to 15 persons to maintain general comfort for group travel and to allow for personalized attention to each participant.

This retreat is for the yoga-inspired traveler who appreciates finely curated travel experiences with a small group of like-minded people. We take care of all the planning. You only need to book your plane ticket and pack your bags. Solo travelers are very welcome!

What is your payment and cancellation policy?

A non-refundable $1,000 deposit is required to confirm your reservation.

Portugal is a popular destination and our retreat hotel books out months to a year in advance. To sign up for this retreat please complete a reservation form.

After sending in your reservation you will receive a pre-retreat handout with more details to help you prepare for your trip to Portugal. The final payment is due 90 days before the retreat start date.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, for whatever reason, we will not be able to provide a refund or credit for any payment made.

The only exception is if your spot can be filled then your payment can either be refunded less a $150 cancelation fee or receive full credit for another Vajra Sol retreat within one year.

No refunds are provided for arriving late or departing the retreat early, for activities or meals in which one does not participate.

If force majeure (e.g. pandemic, natural disaster, government travel restrictions, etc.) causes a retreat to be canceled we will offer alternative dates to reschedule the retreat within one year. In this case, there is no refund of payments when a retreat cannot be held due to causes beyond our control.

If you are unable to join at the rescheduled date, full or partial credit of your payment may be applicable towards another Vajra Sol retreat. This will be determined at the time as it depends on how far out it is from the retreat dates.

In the unlikely event Vajra Sol needs to cancel a retreat for a non-force majeure reason a full refund will be given. Vajra Sol will not be held liable for any expenses incurred by the participant for a retreat canceled either by the participant or by Vajra Sol.

We strongly advise on the purchase of travel insurance at the time of booking your retreat in the case of any unexpected events or changes to your plans before or during your trip.

Should I buy trip insurance?

Trip insurance is strongly recommended for coverage of any unplanned changes that may occur before or during your trip, such as trip cancelation or delayed flights, lost luggage, emergency medical assistance, and more. Check with IMGlobal for insurance coverage that meets your needs.

Every detail was taken care of – Great combination of yoga, touring, wonderful food and accommodations and plenty of extras! First trip and likely not the last!

Mark, Idaho

The planning for our adventures was exhaustive & flawless while the yoga was threaded into every moment. Sandra teaches that yoga is not just about the asana or what you do on your mat. It’s a way of life worth living with others. As for the accommodations, food & service – everything was top notch.

Christina, Labrador, Canada

This was my third retreat with Sandra, I have been to Costa Rica twice and enjoyed my retreats so much there. I again traveled solo to this retreat and felt safe and confident the entire time. If you’re looking for a superbly organized adventure, mixed with spirituality and fun then do yourself a favour and go on retreat with Vajra Sol!
