On our Costa Rica Yoga Retreat, Stand Up Paddling (SUP) is a great option for those who seek to be active and out on the water with breathtaking views of the southern Nicoya Peninsula. It is also the perfect option if you want to try something with a little less impact than surfing

The SUP Yoga Retreat includes three half-day SUP outings to different locations around the Santa Teresa/Mal Pais area. Locations include paddling along the calm waters of an estuary through mangroves and out in open waters of the ocean. The time of the outings may vary each day depending on the tides and general conditions. On the two days off from SUPing, take time to rest and relax or join an optional local excursion.

The SUP instructors are experienced, professional, and will ensure you have a safe and fun time out on the water. Instructors are locals to the area and know how to read the water and where to guide you for the best experience possible.

The first SUP session is focused on learning the basic skills and safety. Learning to SUP happens quickly and no previous experience is needed. You will be out on your board, gliding across the water, on your first day! For those more experienced with SUPing and ready to take it to the next level, there is an option to surf waves. Water temperatures are in the low to mid 80sF so no wetsuit is needed.

SUP has become the most popular emerging water sport today due to its accessibility. It is easy to learn and it is a fun and great workout for the core and upper body. SUP and Yoga are a perfect match, both providing overall body conditioning, improving balance and mental clarity, and offering a profound sense of spiritual connection with the elements of Mother Nature.
