With it's soothing rainforests, energizing volcanoes and tropical beaches Costa Rica embodies the ideal setting for practicing yoga.
Being surrounded by the mystical elements of Mother Nature it is only a natural outcome that the mind calms, the body expands and the heart opens. On our trips we align to the philosophy of keeping it simple, to cultivate a carefreeness and to find new frontiers in self discovery.
The aim of the yoga component is to allow those who enjoy a regular yoga practice to maintain their practice while on vacation and for those who want to delve further it offers the opportunity to reach a greater depth in physical awareness and transform one’s practice with daily yoga sessions.
The type of yoga practiced on Vajra Sol trips and retreats is vinyasa flow either a more energetic or relaxed pace depending on the feel of the day and flavored with each teacher’s personal style. Vinyasa flow yoga synchronizes the asanas, or poses, with the breath creating a rhythmic flow. It is about the integration of mind, body and breath with a physical focus is on improved flexibility, balance and strength to build and maintain a healthy body.
Each day a 1.5-2-hour yoga session (depending on trip or retreat) is led by a Vajra Sol skillful and caring yoga teacher. All levels of experience are welcome. Sessions are tailored to the group’s ability and are typically held at an intermediate level with modifications offered for those with less experience and those more advanced. We practice on comfortable platforms or wooden decks in the temperate open air of the tropics. Please inquire with us to learn more about the yoga teacher for a specific trip/retreat.
EcoYoga
The practice of yoga immersed in nature increases one’s sense of inner balance, has an inspirational effect on one’s spirit and creates a valuable and unique connection to the environment. There are different components to the practice of EcoYoga and Vajra Sol’s focus is on getting back to the basics in life by communing with the pure elements of nature and heightening one’s appreciation for the environment.
“All life is interconnected and ultimately interdependent. This is the subject matter of ecology …Yoga is intrinsically ecological. All Yoga is what has been called ‘Eco-Yoga’. As the Bhagavad-Gita puts it, Yoga is balance (samatva) … When we are inwardly balanced, we are also balanced in relationship to our environment.”
To cultivate the eco-yogic process: “Staying in touch with our natural environment. Living in cities seduces people into having a merely abstract relationship to the Earth. It is important to touch the soil, tend flowers or trees, taste clean spring water, see the exuberance of wildlife, and so forth… Wholeness requires the transformative touch of the Earth as well as blessing from the ‘heaven within’.”
